This is actually the craziest chart about Apple following their insane earnings today.
There is exactly one company on that entire list that is not an oil and gas company. And they’re not that far from the top.

  2. Ultrabook Rules

    ∞ Ultrabook Rules:

I actually wonder when the last time a computer manufacturer, not named Apple, gave a damn about making a computer that made lives easier. Think about it: they don’t make the software, just the hardware — and yet that’s the part that seems like utter crap.

To put it another way: if Apple hadn’t made version 2 of the MacBook Air a wild success, would any other PC manufacturer care to try and make a competing product — one that Intel is begging them to make?

I doubt it. And that’s the problem.

    (Via The Brooks Review)

Exactly the problem. Early last year I decided to sell my late 2007 MacBook Black, and decided to look around for a viable alternative. One came as the obvious choice, which is the latest MacBook Air. Seeing that the machine will be used mainly on a Windows environment at the office, I thought why not try and find the newly hyped ultra book instead. So I did, and let me tell you the obvious. I end up purchasing the obvious MacBook Air, because I can’t find a good enough build quality with the same price point as the new 11” MacBook Air. The trackpad and keyboards are the main issue. The other manufacturer doesn’t seem to care enough to the main interface user’s have with the machine, that is the problem.

  3. Also worth noting that in music, Apple didn’t kill the incumbents. The major music labels are still around making money from sales on iTunes. I think you can argue that Apple saved the major labels — that without iTunes, bootleg filesharing would’ve put them under. It’s true that the labels resent Apple, and dream of a hypothetical world where they make money as they did during the CD era. But people in hell want ice water — that doesn’t mean they can get it.

  6. Blanket marketing is easy because all it takes is money — you design a flyer and send it to as many addresses as you can find. It’s like throwing spaghetti at your customers to see what sticks on who.

Relevant marketing, however, is hard because it requires thought and planning.

  8. Remember that there are only three kinds of things anyone need ever do. (1) Things we ought to do (2) Things we’ve got to do (3) Things we like doing. I say this because some people seem to spend so much of their time doing things for none of the three reasons, things like reading books they don’t like because other people read them. Things you ought to do are things like doing one’s school work or being nice to people. Things one has to do are things like dressing and undressing, or household shopping. Things one likes doing — but of course I don’t know what you like. Perhaps you’ll write and tell me one day.

  10. I bet you, you’re laughing as you see the GIF above.
But after a while, when the laughter stops, and all the other feeling sinks in. You start to feel the pain that the other child feels as the iPad hit his face. That’s empathy, a feeling we should have more. Don’t just stop at laughing.
